Two men arrested in connection with GY$1.6M ganja bust

Two men, both of whom are 20-years-old, were arrested on Tuesday following the discovery of GY$1.6M worth in marijuana at Sandvoort, West Canje, Berbice. 

They have been identified as Kevon Sandy of Republic Drive, West Canje, Berbice, and Prince Todd of Sandvoort, West Canje, Berbice. 

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers conducted an operation at Sandvoort, West Canje, Berbice, where they intercepted the two men. 

One of the individuals had a bulky salt-bag in his possession. A subsequent search of the bag revealed three suspected parcels of cannabis sativa.

As such, they were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters, along with the suspected narcotics. The illegal drug amounted to 5.33 kilogrammes and has an estimated street value of GY$1.6M.
