An intelligence-led Police operation was conducted on April 27 at an alleged ‘drug block’ in Wismar, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). Police ranks conducted a search on a 45-year-old man of North East La Penitence, Georgetown who was under surveillance.

He was arrested by the Police in front of the ‘drug block’. Inside his right-side pants pocket, Police ranks found GY$15,990 suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics.

The ranks went on to search  the area and found one bulky black plastic bag that contained three transparent plastic bags with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The 45-year-old suspect denied ownership of the suspected cannabis and said it belonged to his uncle, a 58 year-old farmer of Train Line, Wismar. At the time, the pensioner was sitting in the suspected ‘drug block’. He, too, was arrested.

The suspected cannabis was  weighed in the presence of the suspects and amounted to 260 grammes. Investigations are ongoing.
