One week after he brutally stabbed his sleeping 57-year-old wife, Savitrie Raj to death, Vijay Raj remains on the run. Police are seeking the public’s assistance with apprehending the alleged killer and have assured that all information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Savitrie Raj, a mother of three, was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband during the wee hours of April 12 at their Lot 563 Fifteenth Street, Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.
The dead woman’s son told Police that his father, a fisherman, was in the habit of verbally abusing his mother. He also related that his father had threatened to kill himself and his mother.
Police Headquarters reported that the murder occurred at around 01:00hrs. The couple’s son told Police that he was in the lower flat of the home when he heard his mother screaming.
As such, he ran to the upper flat where he proceeded to a bedroom where he saw his mother lying on a bed with blood on her body.
The son told Police that his father jumped through a window and made good his escape. An emergency medical technician attached to Melanie Fire Station, East Coast Demerara was summoned and pronounced Savitrie Raj dead at the scene.
Police ranks made checks in the area for the suspect but were unable to find him. Savitrie and Vijay have been married for a little over three decades. Investigations are ongoing.
