Man who assaulted Police Sergeant jailed for 10 months

A man who punched a Police Sergeant in the face has been jailed for 10 months. Seon Prince, who was previously charged with unlawful wounding and theft was arraigned before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that he assaulted Police Sergeant Maxwell, who was acting in the execution of his duties on May 31 at Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

On the day in question, Sergeant Maxwell and other ranks were on patrol duties when they received a report about an alleged damage to property. They then proceeded to the location where they confronted Prince.

After informing Prince of the allegation levelled against him, Sergeant Maxwell attempted to arrest him.  But Prince resisted arrest and cuffed the Police rank several times in his face.

A video of the incident went viral on Facebook.
