𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭 – Some 412 flood-affected households across the Moruca sub-district of Region One are now beneficiaries of a hamper distribution exercise led by Hon. Collin D Croal, Minister of Housing and Water.
As the flooding has been formally declared a national disaster, riverine communities remain the most affected, with the continued heavy rainfalls and high tides, rendering many inaccessible.
Minister Croal has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to alleviating all affected citizens.
He stated that the hamper distribution in the region is a part of a two-fold approach, which began with a flood assessment, conducted by the Regional Democratic Council.
The Minister told residents that the national response, will not rest with the hamper distributions but expand into a structured recovery effort to help restore their livelihoods.
Villages that benefited are Santa Cruz, Waikrebi, Chinese Landing, Kokerite, Kariako, Ayanna, Unity Grant, Kamwatta and Kumaka.
The relief items encompassed 412 hampers with food supplies and 412 sanitation packages.
Minister Croal was accompanied by Regional Vice-Chairman of Region One, Ms. Annansha Peters, through the two-day journey, which began on Saturday.
