On Thursday, 27 employees of the Linden Hospital Complex in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) were sent packing. In fact, the mostly auxiliary staffers received letters from the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rudolph Small which stated that their services were no longer needed.
After learning about what had taken place, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony stated that officials from the Health Ministry reached out to the hospital’s CEO and instructed him to rescind the termination letters.
“So, as of last night, all those letters should’ve been rescinded so nobody is going home, so I just want to make sure that people understand that. We expect that the contracts for all those persons will be renewed and would be renewed for the usual duration,” said the Health Minister.
Like any other person employed by the government, Dr. Anthony said that the public servants’ performance will be evaluated and once found to be satisfactory, they will continue to work.
