2 US citizens charged for uttering forged Covid-19 test certificates, remanded to prison

A Magistrate recently remanded to prison, two United States of America (USA) citizens, who Police say, uttered forged Covid-19 test certificates to immigration officers at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

Jesse Vick, 24 and 26-year-old William Ross, both USA citizens, were arraigned before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts.

They denied separate charges for uttering forged documents contrary to section 277 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act 8:01. They are due for another court appearance in May 2022.

Police Headquarters said that the duo was busted with forged Covid-19 test certificates while they were outgoing passengers destined for the JFK International Airport, New York, USA.

According to the Police, while checking in, they were asked to present their Covid-19 PCR test results. As such, they presented documents with results purporting to show that they tested negative for Covid-19 at the Sheriff Medical Center in Georgetown.

Airport officials, upon examining the documents, suspected that they might be forged. As a result, they made contact with the private medical institution which confirmed that the documents were indeed fake.  In light of this, Ross and Vick were arrested.
