Young father shot dead during robbery was relieved of 18 pennyweights gold chain- Police


Joshua Danny the 19-year-old father of one who was shot dead during a robbery on Thursday at Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was relieved of an 18 pennyweights gold chain valued at $170,000, the Guyana Police Force said in a statement on Friday.

Danny was shot and killed at around 06:00 h a short distance away from his home. At the time of the incident, he was walking on Mittleholzer Street heading in a southern direction to catch transportation on Aubrey Barker Road to go to work.

It was alleged by a witness that at 06:00h, he heard two loud explosions, suspected to be gunshots. The man related that when he looked through a window, he saw Danny standing on a street shouting that he was just shot. 

According to the witness, he also saw a male running in a southern direction on the said street before turning west on a cross street. The witness said the male then jumped on a waiting motorcycle (registration number unknown) with another male and they both rode away in a western direction.

The witness said that a crowd then gathered at the spot where the now dead man was shot and he went outside and saw the injured man bleeding from a suspected gunshot wound to his chest and right hand. 

Danny was picked up and rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

His body was examined and two gunshot wounds were seen- one to his right upper chest and the other to his right upper hand at the back of the muscle area.  Efforts are being made to arrest the two suspects.
