A woman who is accused of wounding her lover causing him to be hospitalised was on Friday charged and released on $50,000 bail.
Shari Alphonso, 38, a vendor of East Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on September 19, 2021, at East Ruimveldt, Squatting Area, Alphonso unlawfully and maliciously wounded Anthony Roach.
The woman pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to her.
In addressing the court, she stated that Roach hit at her first and she collected whatever was in her hand reach and dealt him several lashes about his body.
The woman further went on to tell the court that she would like to be seen by a doctor since she was assaulted by the man.
The Prosecutor indicated to the court that following the incident, the man was hospitalised for a few days.
While the prosecutor did not object to bail being granted to Alphonso, he asked that the couple be placed on a bond to keep the peace.
The prosecutor also informed Roach that should he need any of his belongings from Alphonso’s home, he should let a Police rank accompany him there.
In the end, Magistrate Singh released Alphonso on bail and instructed that she be seen by a doctor.
The matter is adjourned to October 15, 2021.
