Construction has started on a 500,000 sq. ft. shopping mall next to the Sheriff International Hospital in Region 4 on Aubrey Barker Road, Georgetown.

This massive structure will have spaces for rent and kiosks. There will also be a strip dedicated to local arts and crafts, catering to the indigenous community.

The US$75 million investment will attract major fast food brands from the USA and Europe, among others. The company is currently in talks with major clothing, food, and entertainment franchises. This will cater to local businesses in the oil and gas sectors.

The mall will have the first ever elevated parking on several floors.

During a short interview, businessman Sheriff Ahmad said, “There is a need for such a modern and huge structure for the growing needs of Guyana in this vicinity because of massive development in the surrounding areas.”

With massive developments taking place along the East Bank of Demerara and elsewhere, Ahmad further noted that this investment is to foster the vision of President Dr Irfaan Ali and Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo’s vision for a modern Guyana—a ‘One Guyana’ whereby Guyana will be dubbed the Dubai of the Region.

He ended with a famous quote: “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, adding that “but it was built”.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
