Two persons were injured after a minibus and motor lorry collided on Tuesday at around 08:15 hours along the Le Destin Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
A Police report said that minibus BWW 8626, owned and driven by 37-year-old Mohamed Nazrudeen Osman of 12 La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was proceeding east along the northern side of Le Destin Public Road.
Motor lorry GTT 3273 owned by Paul Anthony Hachey, 61, of 3 B Hyde Park, Parika, EBE was stationary at the northern edge of the said road. As the bus was approaching the lorry, the driver of the lorry suddenly turned south into the path of the minibus.
The driver of the minibus, upon seeing this, alleged that he pulled south to avoid a collision but despite his efforts, the left side front of his vehicle collided with the right side front of the lorry.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the lorry and occupant Debra Hackey, 64, received injuries to their heads and other parts of their bodies. They were taken to Leonora Cottage Hospital by a public-spirited citizen in a conscious state.
While Hackey was treated and sent away, the driver of the lorry was transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted as a patient under observation.
According to the Police report, a notice of intended prosecution has been served after a breathalyzer test conducted on the minibus driver gave a reading of .000% BAC. He remains in custody pending further investigations.
