Two men found guilty of stabbing a man with beer bottles were on Wednesday fined $25,000 each or in default two months imprisonment.
The ruling was handed down by Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court
Kumar Isrie, 26, of 338 Section I Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB), and 24-year-old Tolsieram Sookdeo of 239 D Bush Lot Village, WCB, had both denied the charge which stated that on January 1, 2021, at Bush Lot Village, they unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kavanchan Ramkissoon.
Facts presented by the Police prosecutor stated that Sookdeo and Isrie are friends. The Prosecutor said that Sookdeo had a matter before the courts in which he was charged with stabbing Ramkissoon to his abdomen.
The court heard that ever since the incident, the two men would frequently get into arguments. On the day in question, Ramkissoon was imbibing at a shop not too far from where Sookdeo was drinking.
Sookdeo then went over to Ramkissoon and an argument ensued between them. Shortly after, Isrie began pelting Ramkissoon with beer bottles, while Sookdeo dealt him several lashes in the head with the bottles.
Isrie then stabbed Ramkissoon with a broken bottle to his back. The matter was reported to the Police, and following investigations, Isrie and Sookdeo were charged.
