Charged: Olivia Bonus, Andel Valentine, and Teneka Pollard

Two female nurses and a screen personnel officer attached to the Ministry of Health who are accused of forging COVID-19 vaccination booklets were on Tuesday charged.

Those charged are: 32-year-old Andel Valentine of Lot 2136 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD); Teneka Pollard, 29, of Lot 109 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and 21-year-old Olivia Bonus.

The defendants appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts.

They were all charged with the offence of forgery of documents with intent to defraud the public committed on public justice. The offence was allegedly committed between March 1, 2021, and December 3, 2021, at various vaccination centres on the East Bank Demerara.

They were not required to plead to the indictable charge and were each granted bail in the sum of $150,000. They will make their next court appearance on January 20, 2022.

According to reports, one of the nurses admitted to the Police that she sold some 50 COVID-19 vaccine cards at $65,000 each. She also told the Police that 12  of her colleagues at the Health Ministry sold some 500 COVID-19 immunisation booklets at the same price.

As a result, a sting operation was set up whereby a female cop made contact with the nurse and told her she was interested in purchasing some vaccination cards. The court heard the nurse made arrangements to meet the Police rank at a snackette.

There, the Police rank paid the nurse $65,000 for the vaccination card. Shortly after, the nurse was arrested and taken to the Golden Grove Police Station, EBD where she admitted to selling 50 COVID-19 vaccination booklets.

Police are conducting further investigations since several medical personnel working at the Health Ministry have been implicated. Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony has continuously warned that persons found selling/forging vaccinations cards will face the full brunt of the law.
