The Education Ministry has deployed a project management team at the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) to specifically assist the institution with its expansion of teacher training services.
The team met with Education Minister Priya Manickchand on Thursday to discuss the way forward.
Since August 2020, Minister Manickchand has been vocal about the need to expand teacher training so that Guyana can reach the stage where all teachers are trained by the CPCE.
This has resulted in the college offering its services online. This move has seen an increase in the enrolment at the college now more than five times the usual intake since there is no longer a physical limit on how many students can enrol per year.
The Education Minister believes that any improvement in the education system has to start at the CPCE to produce well-qualified and trained teachers who will enter the school system and be able to deliver content to learners.
