Commissioner of Police (ag), Nigel Hoppie on Tuesday afternoon, visited injured Police Constable Cordell Kendall at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

At the hospital, Hoppie met with Constable Kendall and his wife, Imn Kendall. He pledged the Force’s support and assured the injured rank that his needs will be provided by the Police Force.  Constable Kendall was transferred to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Hoppie was accompanied by Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean; Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum; Officer-in-charge of Impact Base, Assistant Superintendent M. Cort; Welfare Officer, Deputy Superintendent Jewel Sullivan, and Inspector Mohan Khan.

Constable Kendall was shot in the left thigh earlier on Tuesday after he and other ranks of the Brickdam Police Station responded to a report of a robbery under-arms at Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust.

They Break News understands that a party of policemen responded to an alleged robbery under-arms committed on a 68-year-old man which occurred at 10:00hrs.

It is alleged that the man was robbed of one artificial hand band and one gold chain, by two identifiable males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

In the process of arresting the suspects, ages 20 and 24 for the alleged offence, a scuffle ensued between them and a Police rank.

One of the suspects held on to the policeman’s firearm trying to disarm him.

The firearm dislodged and the policeman was shot in his left thigh. One of the suspects also received a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

Both injured persons were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, while the other suspect is in Police custody.

Investigations are in progress.
