Police are probing a report of an alleged drowning of toddler Jeremiah Rodrigues, a one-year and nine months old boy of Lower Pomeroon River, Essequibo.
The tragic incident is said to have occurred at about 09:30 hrs on Wednesday at Grant Kitty, Lower Pomeroon.
Enquiries revealed that around 08:30 hrs on Wednesday, the boy’s mother Dacia Torres left her home and went to work a short distance away, leaving her two-month-old baby along with Rodrigues at home.
At about 09:30 hrs, Torres’ sister Candaci Torres shouted out for her and told her that Rodrigues ‘is floating in the trench’.
The toddler was taken out of the water and transported to the Charity Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Checks were made for marks of violence but none were found.
