Remanded to prison: Akeem Alli

An 18-year-old man who is accused of robbing a woman by placing a piece of zinc to her abdomen was on Wednesday remanded to prison.

Akeem Alli of Lot 30 School Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, appeared before  Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He was charged with robbery under-arms.

He denied the charge and was remanded to prison until next month.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that the woman was riding her motorcycle when she stopped and observed the traffic.

The court heard that shortly after, the teenager who was in the company of others approached her, placed a piece of zinc to her abdomen, and demanded her to hand over the motorcycle, a delivery bag containing food, and $13,000 in cash she had in her possession at the time.

The woman, being fearful for her life, handed over the items after which Alli and his alleged accomplices made good their escape. The matter was reported and Police acting on information arrested the accused on November 13, 2021. The woman’s motorcycle was also recovered in an abandoned house at Leopold Street, Georgetown.

The Prosecutor objected to bail being granted Alli on the grounds of the serious nature and prevalence of the offence. The prosecutor also informed the court that Alli is the subject of other robbery investigations. The Prosecutor noted that persons must be able to go about their daily lives comfortably without fear of being robbed.
