Taxi driver robbed by ‘passengers’ in South Ruimveldt


A 34-year-old male taxi driver was on Monday robbed by two identifiable men in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown at approximately 22:15 h. 

They Break News understands that the taxi driver was driving his motorcar HD 336, a silver Toyota 212 along Plaisance Public Road, East Coast Demerara when he picked up two men who requested to be taken to a hotel at the exit in Festival City, South Ruimveldt. 

While in Festival City, one of the perpetrators who was seated in the front passenger seat, pulled out a gun, pointed it at the victim, and relieved him of a BLU cellular phone valued at $15,000, one Alcatel cell phone valued at $8,000 and a car key.

The other perpetrator who was seated in the back seat choked the victim.  The perpetrators then made their escape on foot heading in a northern direction. Checks made in the area by the Police for them have proven futile. Investigations are in progress.
