Taxi driver charged with murder of Essequibo woman

The taxi driver who is accused of murdering a 52-year-old security guard was on Monday charged with murder and remanded to prison.

Sixty-two-year-old Kirk Beaton appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on November 15, 2021, he murdered Indira Lall, a security guard of Affiance, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

He was remanded to prison until December 12, 2021.

According to reports, on the day in question, Beaton dropped off the woman at her daughter’s house where he informed her that her mother was feeling unwell and needed to go to the hospital.

The daughter then asked him to accompany her in taking the woman to the hospital but he refused. As such, the now dead woman’s daughter made alternative arrangements to take her mother to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The matter was then reported to the Police and following an investigation, Beaton was arrested and charged.  A post mortem examination conducted on Lall found that she died as a result of manual strangulation.
