‘Tanta Boy’ remanded for murdering Berbice man


Shane Samaroo called ‘Tanta Boy’, 20, a labourer of Rosignol Village, West Coast  Berbice (WCB), was on Wednesday charged with the capital offence of murder and remanded to prison.

He appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court. 

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on August 19, 2021, at Bennet Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice (WBB), he murdered Faroze Khan called ‘Eggy’. 

Samaroo was remanded to prison until December 20, 2021, when he will appear at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court.

 On December 14, last, at about 07:00 hours, Police ranks acting on information carried out a search at Mibicuri Backlands, Corentyne, Berbice, where they arrested Samaroo. 

He was arrested along with a female who is expected to be charged with harbouring him.

Initial reports state that Samaroo allegedly murdered Khan of Carriage Road, Rosignol, WBB.

The man died on August 19, last, after he was beaten with a piece of wood and stabbed by Samaroo, while leaving a shop in his neighbourhood. 

According to reports, at around 14:00 hrs, Khan was at a grocery shop at Bennet Dam, Rosignol when Samaroo entered and purchased a bottle of water after which he left.

However, as Khan was leaving the shop, Samaroo rushed towards him with a piece of wood and dealt him several lashes about his body.

After Khan fell to the ground, Samaroo pulled out a knife from the waist of his pants and dealt him a stab. 

The injured man was picked up by the Police and escorted to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
