According to Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo during a press conference on Friday, employees of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) will also benefit from the eight percent salary increase that was announced last month for public servants.

He noted that Cabinet made the decision to extend the increase to the sugar workers on Thursday.

“The sugar workers would also get an 8% increase in their wages and salaries,” he told media operatives.

They Break News understands that the increase will likewise take effect as of January 1, 2022.

A retroactive, 8% across-the-board salary increase for all state employees was announced by President Dr. Irfaan Ali last month. The qualifying workers are expected to receive the increase with their December paycheck.

The President also announced salary modifications for employees of the joint services, including a minimum pay hike of up to 21% for police officers.
