Suspect: Bethel Chineze

The Nigerian national who was shot after attempting to enter the official residence of President Irfaan Ali a week ago will soon be questioned by investigators. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum on Tuesday revealed that the suspect, Bethel Chineze, is now conscious again after being placed on a ventilator.

Blanhum said that detectives were told by officials of the Georgetown Public Hospital that although the suspect can undergo questioning, his condition is still considered to be critical.

” A team of investigators will be on their way to see if they can interview him in relation to the State House incident,” Blanhum informed.

“I want the President,” is what the suspect reportedly yelled when he approached a security detail at State House on December 15.

He then, according to the authorities, pulled a knife from his waistband and stabbed Telon Pereira five times in the neck and other places about his body. The suspect also reportedly took away the gun from a rank who was a member of the security team.

As he fled to Carmichael Street, the suspect pulled out a gun and started to shoot towards State House, but he was wounded when security forces opened fire. A 9MM firearm and seven expended 9MM ammunition were discovered.

The suspect and security personnel were both taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for urgent medical care.
