‘Spragga’ remanded for attempting to traffick ganja to Suriname


A 41-year-old man who was intercepted last Wednesday in a boat while preparing to leave for neighbouring Suriname, was on Monday charged with trafficking marijuana. 

Jagdeo Ramdass, also known as ‘Spragga’ appeared before Magistrate Rabindranuth Singh at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 8, 2021, at Moleson Creek, Corentyne Berbice, he had 684 grammes of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. 

He was remanded to prison until December 20, 2021, for report. 

According to the Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit (CANU), its ranks acting on information went to Moleson Creek, Corentyne, Berbice where they conducted a narcotics operation.

During the exercise, officers intercepted a wooden boat suspected of smuggling narcotics to Suriname.

The boat was searched in the presence of three persons that were on the vessel at the time of interception and a quantity of marijuana was discovered on board. 

The suspects were then arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters, along with the cannabis. However, following an investigation, only Ramdass was charged.
