Re: Taxation and raise for public servants

It is my sincere hope that you and your family are doing well and keeping safe in this time of COVID.

In reference to the matter at caption, I have noted that the Government recently announced a wage increase of 7% across the board for all public service employees retroactive to January 2021.

Permit me this opportunity to commend the administration on this increase.

The nation looks forward to the future increases which I am sure will follow in due course with your continued stewardship of the State’s finances.

Sir, succinctly, through your good office, I beseech you to make these increases tax free. One need not belabour a scholarly mind as yours on the importance of this initiative to families and I have every confidence that the strain on the public’s purse will be minuscule in comparison to the smiles, warmth and joy it will place in hearts and homes across the country for the holiday season.

In such regard, I assure of my highest consideration.

 Sincerely yours,

Hon. Lenox R. O. Shuman

Deputy Speaker; MP
