Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Dexter Brown who was on Friday busted with a quantity of marijuana at a roadblock has been charged and remanded to prison.
On Wednesday, Brown made an appearance before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
The senior Police rank pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 1, 2021, at Helena No.2 Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) he had 9.4 kilogrammes of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Brown was remanded to prison until November 2, 2021, when he will appear at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court for disclosure of statements.
According to reports, on the day in question, Police ranks acting on information stopped a motor car that was being driven by DSP Brown.
It is alleged that the vehicle had earlier eluded a Police patrol in Berbice.
While the vehicle was at the roadblock, the Police patrol from the Regional Police Division 5 drove up, resulting in Brown driving through the roadblock in an attempt to escape.
He was however pursued by the ranks and was intercepted at Lima Dam, Mahaica, ECD.
The vehicle driven by DSP Brown was searched during which 9.4 kilograms of cannabis sativa and two rounds of 9mm ammunition were found.
DSP Brown was then arrested and taken into Police custody.
