Security guard arrested for stealing $1.2M from DSL, Massy


A security guard attached to Amalgamated Security Services is currently in Police custody for allegedly stealing $1.2M from Distribution Services Limited (DSL), and Massy Distribution.

The establishments are located at Lot 12 Main and Chapel Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and Lot 15-16 Strand Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice, respectively.

A manager at  Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), New Amsterdam told the Police that on December 2, a female cashier at DSL handed over two deposit bags with marked serial numbers to the department.

The manager said that he then handed over three deposit bags with marked serial numbers to a male security of Amalgamated Security Services.  On December 10, last, the manager received information that one of the bags containing $200,000 in cash was missing. 

On the said day, a female cashier at Massy Distribution handed over nine deposit bags containing cash to the said security guard. However, on December 13, last, the cashier received information from the bank that a bag containing $1,000,000 in cash was missing.

The Police were informed and the security guard was later arrested, told of the allegation, cautioned, and placed into custody. Police ranks found $485,000 in cash at the security guard’s home. He was arrested and taken to the 

Central Police Station where the monies were lodged.

The security guard remains in custody pending further investigations.
