Isgar Esau, 49, of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was killed after a car driven by retired Assistant Commissioner of Police  Brian Joseph collided with his motorcycle on Friday at Meer Zorgen, Public Road, WBD.

Enquiries disclosed that motorcar PZZ 6015 driven by the 59-year-old retired cop of 735 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was proceeding west along the southern side of Meer Zorgen Public Road when the driver was in the process of turning north at the junction.

The right side front portion of the motorcar collided with the front portion of Esau’s motorcycle CH 7636 which was proceeding south along the eastern side of Meer Zorgen Public Road. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway and received injuries to his head.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body of the deceased was then escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour for storage awaiting a post mortem examination. A notice of intended prosecution was served on Joseph after a breathalyzer test conducted on him revealed that he had no trace of alcohol in his blood.

Joseph has since been released on $100,000 station bail pending investigations.
