Pensioner charged with fraud over sale of land

A pensioner who is accused of conspiring with others to defraud a real estate agent of a plot of land was on Monday granted $300,000 bail on a fraud-related charge. The woman, Loren Graham, 66, was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

She denied the charge which stated that between September 1, and September 17, at Georgetown, she conspired with others and falsely pretended to Leon Joseph, a real estate agent, that she was in a position to sell a parcel of land located at Lot  924 Eccles, East Bank Demerara,  knowing same to be false.

Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummel objected to bail being granted to the woman on the ground that she give investigators a caution statement. However, the Magistrate granted the woman bail in the sum of $300,000.  She was also instructed to make her next court appearance on October 18, 2021.
