“Patsy” found dead at home by son

The body of Barah Matthews, 75, a pensioner of Lot 6 James Street, Rampoor Springlands, Corriverton Berbice, was on Thursday found in a bedroom by her son.

Matthews, also known as “Patsy,” had lived alone. The son of the deceased, Peter Matthews of No. 6 Housing Scheme, Corentyne Berbice said that he last saw his mother alive on Tuesday at around 13:00 hrs at her home.

On Thursday, the son related to the police that he made several phone calls to his mother, but all the calls went unanswered throughout the entire day.

About 21:50hrs, he went to her residence, where he found the entire house secured from the inside. As a result, he used force to enter the house, where he found his mother lying face up in her bedroom motionless.

The matter was later reported to the police, who observed that the now deceased body was in a highly decomposed state.

The body was escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where it was certified dead by a doctor before being taken to Anthony’s  Funeral Home and placed in cold storage awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
