Pastry vendor died from gunshot injuries – PME finds

Dead: Shawn Albert

A Post Mortem Examination (PME) conducted on the body of 39-year-old Shawn Albert of Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), revealed that he died from hemorrhage and shock due to gunshot injuries to his chest.

The autopsy was done on Thursday by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh.

Police had initially reported that there were no injuries seen on Albert’s body after he was pronounced dead at the Suddie Hospital on Sunday last.

However, Deputy Director of the Force’s Corporate Communication Unit (CCU), Stan Gouveia, said that the “bullet went through his armpit,” which made it hard to detect.

“At the time when he was pronounced dead, the medical personnel at the hospital did not provide such information to the police.”

Albert was murdered while escaping from two gunmen, during a robbery that took place at Onderneeming, Sand Pitt, on the Essequibo Coast.

Reports are that Albert and a salesman, Decklon Lee, who were attached to Lin’s Bakery, had travelled to Essequibo to sell pastries.

While at Pam John’s shop at Church Street in Onderneeming, they were approached by two masked gunmen.

One of the men pointed a gun at Lee and ordered him to hand over all the cash while Albert remained inside in the vehicle.

Lee retaliated, which resulted in a scuffle. Lee had shouted to Albert to drive away; however, one of the gunmen discharged three rounds at Lee, and Albert lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby fence.

The gunmen made good their escape with $60,000 in cash..
