One in custody for murder of GDF rank, lover


One person was arrested and taken into Police custody for the murder of 26-year-old Daniel Fraser, a Lance Corporal of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), and his 23-year-old lover Shanika Forde. This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum. 

They Break News understands that, Fraser and Forde were shot dead at around 23:00 h on Wednesday night in ‘B’ Field Sophia, on the East Coast Demerara (ECD). 

The Forde, a Guyanese by birth, who resides in Barbados was vacationing in Guyana for the past three months and was staying at one of her friends at Lot 66 South Sophia.

They Break News understands that Fraser and Forde shared an intimate relationship for about two weeks, were imbibing alcohol at a shop at ‘C’ Field Sophia. 

However, at 23:30hrs they left the shop to go home on a motorcycle bearing registration number CK 9296 which is owned by Fraser. 

As they were heading west along last street ‘B’ Field Sophia, they were confronted by an unknown male who approached them from a northern direction on a bicycle and discharged six rounds at Fraser and Forde causing them to fall on the ground. 

The suspect then rode away in a western direction and made good his escape. 

Fraser and Forde were picked up by Fraser’s brother Darrell Fraser and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where they were pronounced dead on arrival. 

According to information, Fraser received one gunshot wound to his chest while Forde received three shots- one to the chest, one to her right knee, and another to the right side abdomen.

Their bodies are currently at the GPHC mortuary awaiting post mortem examination. 

A search has since been launched to locate the suspect as investigations continue.
