NWD man wanted for killing Brazilian national

Thirty-five-year-old Genelson Alves Olivera is wanted by the Police for the murder of Brazilian national Gilson Carlos Da Cruz Carvahlo called “Negung”. The murder took place on October 21, 2021, at Central Baramita, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini).

It was reported that the now deceased and Olivera were known to each other since they were involved in gold mining at the Venezuela/Guyana borders. Whilst working, Carvahlo and Olivera had a misunderstanding over a quantity of raw gold which led to them threatening each other frequently.

None of the incidents were reported to the Police.  At around 20:30 hours in the day in question, Carvahlo and Olivera were consuming alcohol at Central Baramita, North West District in the vicinity of Johnny Phillips’ Hotel, when they ended up in a heated argument.

As a result, Olivera allegedly pulled out a knife and dealt Carvahlo several stabs to his chest and rib area. The suspect then allegedly dropped the said knife and made good his escape on foot.  The victim was rushed to Baramita Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a medex.

A report was made to Baramita Police Station and the alleged murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
