A 35-year old woman and her six-year-old daughter died on Wednesday after the house in which they lived collapsed at Lower Bonasika Creek, Essequibo River. Dead are Seematie Chandra and her daughter Christine Sookdeo. Chandra resided at the premises with her husband, Tulsieram Sookdeo, 45, and two other children.
The mother and daughter were under the house feeding puppies when it abruptly collapsed. According to the grieving husband, he left home on Wednesday at around 15:50 hours to burn bushes on another plot of land lots away from his home.
Shortly after, his neighbour informed him that the house collapsed and fell and that his wife and daughter were pinned under the beams. As a result, Sookdeo told the Police that he hurried home where he saw his wife and daughter pinned beneath the collapsed house.
With assistance from villagers, the bodies were removed and transported via boat to Parika Hubu Stelling. Police found no marks of violence on the bodies of Chandra and Sookdeo. However, blood was seen oozing from their nose and mouth.
Chandra and her daughter were transported to Leonora Cottage Hospital where they were officially pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies are presently lying at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting post mortem examinations.
