The ground/playfield at Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is being rehabilitated into a multi-purpose facility by Mohamed’s Enterprise and Team Mohamed’s. The ground, which has been overrun by bushes, was recently weeded by the Cigars and Cognac Group which is owned by lawyer, James Bond.
“I have had numerous conversations with Mr. Bond about community development and empowerment and I visited the particular ground and spoke to the young people in the area who have stated that they would love to participate in sporting activities right there in the playfield,” Azruddin Mohamed said.
Mohamed explained that he proposed making the ground a multi-purpose facility that will be properly fenced with an internal walking track so that everyone whether young or old can benefit from the use of the playfield.
According to him, youths will be able to use the playfield to play football and other sports. He said, “I’m going to make a beach football facility, the dimensions will be full scale. Likewise, I will build a FIBA specified basketball court for those who love basketball.”
Since Melanie has its own football and basketball team, he noted that the rehabilitation of the ground will greatly help them in preparation for national team representation. Economically, he explained that the playfield will benefit the community since fundraisers and sporting events can be kept at the ground.
Mohamed said, “The people of Melanie, Enterprise, Non Pariel, and Paradise could all benefit in one way or the other. This will also take some young people off of the streets and away from negative influences. My advice to all the youths of these communities is to stay focused and work to improve your lives and the lives of your families. God bless you all.”
