A miner who is accused of fatally stabbing another man during an argument over owed monies was on Wednesday charged with murder and remanded to prison.
Kurt Simeron, 26, of 1968 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on November 5, 2021, at Puruni Landing, Middle Mazaruni, he murdered Andre Collison called DJ ‘Choppy’.
Simeron was remanded to prison until December 3, 2021.
According to reports, on the day in question, 38-year-old Collison was allegedly stabbed by Simeron following an argument over owed monies.
Reports indicate that at around 01:00 hours on the day in question, Collison left his room in search of food and went to “Two Blessed Sisters Restaurant” and made an order.
While waiting to collect his food, it is alleged that Simeron went into the said establishment where an argument broke out between him and Collison over the monies.
The argument became heated and Simeron reportedly drew a knife from the waist of his pants and stabbed Collison several times about his body and then made good his escape.
The injured man was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Puruni Health Post where he died while receiving treatment.
