Men robbed in minibus after collecting $5.8M in salaries

Police in Regional Police Division Three are  investigating an incident in which two employees of Elite Protection Services, Leonora, West Coast Demerara were robbed of $5,826,960 in salaries.

The victims, two men: a 45-year-old of Leguan, Essequibo River and a 71-year-old of Wakenaam, Essequibo River were allegedly robbed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. 

The incident took place at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) at about 11:30hrs on Friday night.

Police Headquarters said that the two employees were each paid $3M each, after which they left the office at Leonora and joined a minibus.

The vehicle was being driven by a 42-year-old man of Greenwich Park, EBE.

While at Leonora, one of the suspects boarded the bus and went into the third seat, while the second suspect joined the bus at Zeelugt and went into the front seat of the bus. 

One of the suspects requested the driver to go into Clay Brick Road to collect his grandmother and he offered to pay $2,000 extra. 

As the driver was proceeding in the direction given by the suspect, the other suspect, who was in the third seat, caused the driver to stop and pulled out a handgun and proceeded to rob the two passengers.

The suspect, who was in the front seat, pulled the keys out of the bus’ ignition after which he ran to a motorcycle that was parked a short distance away from the bus. He was joined by the other suspect, and they both subsequently escaped on the motorcycle.

The victims were also robbed of a Blu cellular phone valued $5000, a Samsung J7 cellular phone valued $30,000, a Grand Prime phone valued $20,000, and one S10 Samsung Galaxy phone valued $60,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
