A fish vendor who Police said snatched two rings from a woman while she was fighting with another woman was on Friday charged with larceny and released on $80,000 bail.
Tafivan Vieira, 37, of Meadow Bank, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Vieira pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 26, 2021, at Meadow Bank Wharf, Georgetown, he stole from the person of Roma Munasar one gold wedding ring valued at $152,000, and a silver ring valued at $14,500.
Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated the on the day in question, the virtual complainant was in an altercation with another female at the said wharf.
It was during the fight that Vieira snatched the woman’s rings and made good his escape. The matter was then reported and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged.
Conditions attached to the bail are that Vieira lodges his passport with the clerk of court and report to the Ruimveldt Police Station once per week until his trial is completed.
