Man who wanted to sell 12-gauge shotgun remanded to prison

A 23-year-old man who wanted to sell a 12-gauge shotgun along with seven live cartridges, was on Friday, charged and remanded to prison.

Devon Jaiprashad of Lot 359 Block 20 Haslington New Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

He denied the charge which stated that on December 2, 2021, at Haslington New Scheme, ECD, he had a 12-gauge shotgun and seven matching rounds in his possession when he was not the holder of a firearm licence enforced at the time.

He was remanded to prison until January 26, 2022.

According to reports, on the day in question, at about 15:30 hours, Police ranks acting on information went to Jaiprashad’s home. A search was conducted in his presence in his home and a black 12-gauge shotgun along with seven live cartridges were found in his bedroom.

He was asked if he is the holder of a firearm licence and he said no and told Police that he had intended to sell the items. He was arrested, cautioned, and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station.
