A 31-year old man is now in Police custody after he allegedly stabbed his former friend to death. Dead is 28-year-old Paul Braithwaite of Barnwell North, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara.

A Police report stated that the suspect and Braithwaite are known to each other and were friends up until September, last,  when they encountered a misunderstanding over a female. The report said that the men would engage in periodic arguments over the said female.

The report said that on November 4, at about 23:20 hours, both the suspect and the now-deceased man were both hanging out at Arcadia Street, Mocha when they got into a heated argument. The two men then reportedly brandished knives and started stabbing each other.

Braithwaite then attempted to flee the scene but fell onto the western side of the road where he laid motionless. The suspect then ran to the Mocha Police Outpost and reported the incident. He was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested.

The suspect was taken to the  Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was treated and sent away. When Police ranks arrived at the scene, they found Braithwaite who had several stab wounds about his body. The injured man was also taken to the said hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body is presently lying at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.

Further investigations are underway.
