Man charged with $400M gold heist killed while walking with his family on Regent St

Sabautaro Singh aka “Mark Singh” and “Pappy”, who was charged in connection with a $400M gold heist at an East Coast Demerara (ECD) home of a female gold dealer, was killed on Wednesday evening as he and his family walked along the busy Regent Street in Georgetown. 

They Break News understands that as Singh was walking, a man came up to him from behind and slit his throat. Singh, 22, a labourer, is last known to be residing at Herstelling Sea Dam, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He and several other males, including a 17-year-old boy, were charged in connection with the gold heist and each admitted to bail in the sum of $150,000. 

One of the accused persons had pleaded guilty and was jailed for four years. According to reports, the men were hired by the businesswoman to conduct repairs to her house at Mahaica, ECD where they stumbled on 1,000 ounces of raw gold worth $400M. 

They stole the gold and later went on a spending spree, buying motor vehicles and other items. Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred between December 2021 and January 2022 but was only reported to the Police in September. 

Police Headquarters had reported that the female gold dealer, Bibi Acklema Goberdhan had accumulated the raw gold over the years and concealed them at a location within the confines of her home.
