A 20-year-old man was arrested on Friday after threatening to kill his 17-year-old fiancée and assaulting her 69-year-old stepfather who went to her rescue.
The incident occurred at around 02:00 hours at Number 77 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. They Break News understands that the teenage girl and the man are living together and have been engaged for about two years.
On Thursday at about 19:30 hours, it is alleged that the man came home under the influence of alcohol and slapped his fiancée during an argument. He then pulled a kitchen knife on her and grabbed her hair.
The young lady reported the matter to the Police station. Police ranks made checks for the man but did find him. It is alleged that at about 02:00 hours on Friday, the man returned home, opened the louvre panels to their bedroom, and asked his fiancée for a cigarette lighter.
When the girl told him she did not have a lighter, he became annoyed and threatened to kill her. Upon hearing this, her 69-year-old stepfather rushed into the bedroom and threw water into the man’s face while asking him to leave.
Her fiancé became annoyed, pulled out the louvre panels and iron bars from the window, and attempted to enter the room. The teen’s stepfather then threw a cup of what appeared to be hot oil in his face.
The 20-year-old man rushed to his mother’s home which is in the area and was taken to Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away to return for further treatment.
He then reported the matter to the Springlands Police Station. At about 06:30 hours today, the pensioner also went to the Springlands Police Station with injuries to his face. He told the Police that he was lashed to the face by his stepdaughter’s fiancé.
The elderly man was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor, treated, and sent away. He and the 20-year-old man were both arrested and are presently in custody.
Investigations are ongoing.
