Man, 66, fatally struck by car while using pedestrian crossing at Agricola

Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Monday at about 08:10hrs on the Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara (ECD).

The accident claimed the life of 66-year-old pedestrian Imtiaz Isahack of Eccles, EBD.

The accident occurred in the vicinity of the Agricola Police Outpost and involved motorcar PYY 1162 driven by a 50-year-old man from Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. 

Enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding north along the Agricola Public Road when the 66-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road from west to east on a pedestrian crossing. 

The driver of the motorcar alleged that the pedestrian “walked into his path” without looking. 

As a result, he told investigators that the front left side of the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, causing him to be flung into the air.

Isaack, who received several injuries to his head and body was pronounced dead at the scene at about 08:41hrs by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

The man’s body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver showed no trace of alcohol.

He is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
