At around 02:30 h on Sunday, Rickey Persaud, a 34-year-old labourer of Lot 8 Harrison Street, Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara was found lying motionless in his apartment by his sister-in-law.
It is alleged by the sister-in-law, a 30-year-old housewife of Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara, that she along with her husband and other relatives were at her brother-in-law’s address attending the wedding reception of Malinda Persaud –the sister of the now dead man.
The sister-in-law said there was a power outage, but after seeing that other houses nearby had electricity, she and her husband went to the upper flat of the house to check whether there was a problem with the main-switch/fuse box.
The woman said when she put on the power from the main switch, she saw Persaud lying on the ground motionless and facing upwards. As a result, Police ranks were summoned to the scene and several persons were interviewed. There were no marks of violence on Persaud’s body.
Persaud was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead. His body is presently lying at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. One person is in Police custody as investigations continue.
