A Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) taxi driver is now nursing a gunshot wound to his leg after being shot by armed bandits moments after parking his car in his garage. The incident took place on Wednesday at around 19:00 hours at Phase One B, Wisroc, Wismar, Linden.
Enquiries disclosed that on the day in question, the 35-year-old victim drove home and parked his vehicle in his garage. However, upon exiting the vehicle, he heard loud explosions which sounded like gunshots.
Shortly after, he was confronted by two masked men, one of whom was armed with what appeared to be a handgun. The gunman was in the company of another man. Both suspects forced the victim to kneel before relieving him of a gold chain and a gold ring valued at $260,000 and $100,000 in cash.
Thereafter, one of the armed men punctured two of the victim’s car tyres with a knife. The victim who remained on the ground begged for his life and the suspect who was armed with the handgun shot him to his left side thigh.
The suspects then made good their escape on foot. The victim raised an alarm and was assisted by public-spirited citizens who took him to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was seen and examined by a doctor.
The injured man is in a stable condition at the hospital. Several checks were made for the suspects but they were not seen. Investigations are ongoing.
