A heavily pregnant woman and her husband both died on Thursday afternoon following a horrific accident at Caledonia Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Dead are 42-year-old Lloyd Valcin and 31-year-old Onica Valcin both of Wisroc Linden, Region 10.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Shaquel Williams of Blue Berry Hill Squatting Area, Linden is hospitalised. The accident occurred around 14:45 hours. A Police report said that the accident involved motor lorry GWW 4922 owned and driven by 50-year-old Carl Craig of Lot 150 Public Road, Soesdyke, EBD, and motorcar PXX 8815 owned and driven by Valcin.

Reports indicate that motor lorry GWW 4922 was proceeding north along the western side of Caledonia Public Road, EBD whilst motorcar PXX 8815 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the said road.
As both vehicles were approaching a landfill site situated on the western side of the road, an unknown motor lorry which was transporting sand was reversing from east to west on the road into the landfilling site.
As a result, motor lorry GWW 4922 pulled in a northeasterly direction to pass the reversing lorry. In so doing, the motor lorry ended up in the path of motorcar PXX 8815 and collided head-on.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the motorcar, his wife who was in the left front seat, and Williams who was in the rear seat received injuries to their heads and about their bodies. They were all taken out of the car in an unconscious condition by the Police and public-spirited citizens and escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
Valcin and his wife died while receiving treatment. Williams was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he has been admitted as a patient suffering from body trauma.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motor lorry which revealed zero per cent alcohol. He is in custody assisting with investigations.
