A Jamaican national who departed Guyana illegally was on Wednesday fined $20,000 for the offence. Payton Maurice Smith, a businessman of Kingston, Jamaica, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the No.51 Magistrate’s Court.
The charge against him was laid under Section 10(1) of the Immigration Act chapter 14:02. Smith pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $20,000.
Failure to pay the fine will see him spending three weeks in prison.
