Interdicted Policeman, Wayde Padmore will be spending the next 10 years in jail for engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl.
On the last day in October, Padmore, 25, the father of a three-year-old boy, was found guilty of that offence, and not guilty of causing the girl to watch him perform a sexual act.
In relation to the other charge which alleged that he raped the child, the jury panel was unable to arrive at a verdict and as such, Padmore will have to face a retrial.
Appearing before Justice Sandil Kissoon on Friday at the Sexual Offences Court in Demerara, the disgraced Policeman sat in disbelief as the jail sentence was handed down.
The first count against him alleged that he raped the child between December 1 and 31, 2019. He engaged in sexual activity with her during October 2020.
The third charge on which he was acquitted alleged that he caused the teen to watch him masturbate until he ejaculated.
Padmore was represented by defence attorney Clyde Forde, while the State was represented by State Counsel Cecelia Corbin, State Counsel Caressa Henry and State Counsel Paneeta Persaud. The trial proceedings were heard in-camera.
Section 11 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act states that a person who engages in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16, is liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for five years and on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for 10 years.
