A 48-year-old man who is accused of fatally chopping a man was Tuesday remanded to prison on a murder charge. Sahadeo Persaud of 328 Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayao Azore at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between September 21, 2021, and September 22, 2021, at Hope Estate, ECD, he murdered 32-year-old Pradesh Ramgobin, of lot 19 Block 5 Hope, East Coast Demerara.
The murder accused was remanded to prison until November 30, 2021, for statements.
According to reports, Ramgobin was in the habit of consuming alcohol with friends daily. On the day in question, Ramgobin left his mother’s home to hang out with friends but never returned.
The following day, at around 08:30 hours, Persaud went to Ramgobin’s mother and told her that her son was chopped on his hand and head which caused him to die.
Subsequently, the Police was informed and during a search they found Ramgobin lying clad in blue underwear on a bed surrounded by blood.
As a result, he was examined and two wounds were seen among other injuries about his body.
Ramgobin was taken to the CC Nicholson Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Following an investigation, Persaud was arrested and charged with the capital offence of murder.
