Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony said on Monday during his daily Health Update that hospitals are monitoring the emergence Respiratory Syncytial Virus and COVID-19, which are targeting young children.
“Generally, it presents with lower respiratory track infection, which mean that typically children would present with problems with breathing and bronchitis,” he noted.
He noted that while no cases of the infection have been recorded locally, parents should access health facilities should their children experience difficulties breathing.
RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a highly contagious, seasonal lung infection that presents itself in children and adults. Most cases are mild, with cold-like symptoms.
