A man who was wanted in Guyana for murder was stabbed to death over the weekend in Suriname.
He has been identified as 34-year-old Medellin Orlando Evans for whom a wanted bulletin was issued by the Guyana Police Force in 2020.
The Waterkant, a news outlet in Suriname, reported that Orlando was taken hostable by a 32-year-old Chinese shopkeeper after he stole a pack of cheese. “The victim had put the stolen cheese in a container of his scooter,” the news outlet said.
According to the Waterkant, two workers are said to have helped the shopkeeper to tie the victim’s hands and feet in the store with tape and tie wraps.
“According to eyewitnesses, the victim was then dragged to the store’s warehouse and severely beaten by the storekeeper. The case is said to have occurred around 8 p.m. After nearly four hours, the victim was found by bystanders across the street from the supermarket,” it further reported.
The report added, “According to eyewitnesses, the victim was dragged across the supermarket by the shopkeeper. The police were called in and launched an investigation. The victim was on the scene with a scooter and helmet. The crash helmet was found with blood, but no trace of the scooter is still missing.”
“After the police were tipped off by society, the shopkeeper reported to the station, after which he was arrested and placed in custody after being arraigned. Police are working to arrest the two workers. The investigation in this case continues.”
In March 2020, local Police had issued a wanted bulletin for 34-year-old Evans and his brother, Carlos Evans, 30, over the murder of businessman Tony Bishnauth.
It was reported that the 78-year-old man called ‘Uncle Tony’ and ‘England Man’ of Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice, (WCB) who operated ‘Sandra’s Snackette’ at the Rosignol Stelling Road, was shot once on March 13, 2020 after several men invaded his business place where he and others were celebrating his 78th birthday.
It is unclear whether the younger Evans was ever charged with the businessman’s murder. However, another man, Sheldon Smith, 23, of Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was in the latter part of March 2020, charged and remanded to prison for Bishnauth’s murder.
